Good Afternoon,So as promised is my first local Artist spotlight. Lorraine Hazell-Linder is an emerging artist in Yeovil, Somerset – I love her artwork and asked if I could post about her journey as I find her creations fascinating.I hope you enjoy!
Here is Her Story
A few years ago I embarked upon some 1-1 counselling. I was guided to a Psycho-Spiritual counsellor (unbeknown to me at the time).
“Just a few sessions” I said on the phone – maybe six at the most – when he phoned to organise our first appointment.
Three years later, transformed and self-actualised, I emerged!
I was far more confident and self-assured and I had made several personal life changes for the better.I had learnt to listen to myself deeply, using my art and visualisation as kind of ‘doorways’ in.
Also I had learned to be honest with myself, to sit with pain and other difficult feelings, to understand myself and my relationships with others with greater clarity.
Two years into my counselling I decided to embark on my own counselling training.
So I applied for Art Therapy training.
Also I wanted to work more deeply with people than my special needs teaching was allowing.
Psycho-Spiritual Counselling training has been the right thing for me, it has actually enhanced my artwork and creativity tremendously.
This has led to a fascinating exploration of what spirituality means to me.
My Counselling Training is taking place at; http://www.sweet-track-counselling.co.uk
“Carl Rogers (1902-1987) was a humanistic psychologist who agreed with the main assumptions of Abraham Maslow.
Although he added that for a person to “grow”, they need an environment that provides them with genuineness (openness and self-disclosure).
Also acceptance (being seen with unconditional positive regard) and empathy (being listened to and understood).
Without these, relationships and healthy personalities will not develop as they should, much like a tree will not grow without sunlight and water.
Rogers believed that every person could achieve their goals, wishes, and desires in life.
Lorraine’s Art Journey
Following the ‘restructuring’ of my personal life in 2015, in 2017 I took a professional leap of faith, let go of my ‘formal teaching’ career and let ‘the artist’ in me take the lead.
I didn’t know how things fitted together anymore professionally, as teaching had become inhibiting.
I also needed to shed one old professional skin and grow another.
Reaching people as an artist, counsellor and teacher (of my own ‘self-awareness through art’ workshops) was my focus.
My life purpose is to connect and empower students, clients and observers of my art as required.
Painting the unseen through my paintings was my passion and goal.
Visual feelings, energy, and the spiritual world to therefore make the invisible-visible, channelling it through ‘soul-connection’.
Lorraine’s Soul-Connection Exhibition 2018
From 7 – 14th April 2018 I will be holding a one man art exhibition.
The work on display will be the paintings that I have produced during and since 2015.
The artwork is ‘deep work’ created in response to my own counselling, my counselling training and my exploration of spirituality.
Soul Connection will be at ;
Eastville Project Space
2/F Thorne House
